Yumi's Home Fix

Free printable cheat sheet

Clean your whole home with three cheap powders.

My mother in Osaka never owned eleven cleaning bottles. She had three powders and one simple rule. I put all of it on one page you can tape inside your sink cabinet.

  • Every recipe: grease spray, limescale spray, oven paste, toilet ring, kettle
  • The 7 store-bought products you can stop buying
  • The safety rules from Japanese bottles: what never to mix

The three powders

Baking soda

Gentle scrubbing for sinks and tubs, oven paste, and open jars that soak up fridge and shoe odors.

Citric acid

Dissolves white limescale, water spots, kettle scale and the ring in the toilet. No harsh smell.

Sesqui

The one most Americans have never heard of. Cuts kitchen grease and body oil, and works as a spray.

Yumi in her kitchen

Hi, I'm Yumi.

I grew up in Osaka and have lived in Ohio for fifteen years with my husband and two kids. My mother ran our whole home on one salary, a little notebook and three jars of powder. My grandmother taught me mottainai: too good to waste.

On Yumi's Home Fix, I share simple, clever ways to keep a home clean, fresh and cheap to run: tricks I learned from my mother in Japan, and the best ones I have found in America. No miracle products, and always the safety rules.

Clean a little every day, and your home takes care of you.
